My "Master Plan"---Jaquenta Richard's Action Research Plan

Well...here is my I think the best way to say it is rough draft.  I say rough draft due to the fact that I know for a fact I will be changing some aspects (wordage, etc) of this action research plan.  I will say that I am excited about this action research and what will reveal itself though this action research.  Another reason why this may change is due to a shift in my job location which means change in site supervisor.  Here is my plan:  Please make comments as you see fit.

  1. I think that you have a good start. However I have two suggestions; I would add a section to share your findings with your colleagues. I would also create an action step that implements an intervention to reduce the percentage on ineligible students. You can use the data from your interviews. I hope that helps!

  2. Couple of questions.....Is this for high school, jr high , or both? One strategy that we do (3A school) to help monitor grades is to give each student a grade sheet. This is done on a weekly basis. I know we can print grades out, but sometimes grades are not updated. This gives teachers an opportunity to comment on the sheet as well. If students do not have it or they are missing a grade, then those situations will be handled accordingly. This is also done at the jr high.

    1. Felix,

Thank you for commenting on my blog. This is for a 2A high school that enforces corporal punishment. It makes it more difficult for me because this will be my first year at this school so I am learning what their disciplinary actions are. As a coach I will remain up to date on their grades by giving out grade sheets. In your experience do you find that teachers are not receptive to the weekly grade sheets?

  3. Do you have questions for a survey yet? Have you thought about utilizing a control group? I mean looking at a group of non-sport kids as well as the athletes. There is a lot of reviewing on your plan, but not much revealing/sharing/etc. I am just thinking that you could look at your plan and think about how you can add detail.

    1. Daniel,

Thanks for commenting. Currently I do not have questions for the survey and I am still flip flopping on my control group. My plan is to receive the data from the teachers/coaches and then report my overall data back to them. I too believe I need more detail and organization in my plan. This is truly a work in progress.

  4. What made you decide to do this for an action research plan? Do you have a large population of students who are or would be good athletes, but just are not eligible because of grades? I think this is an interesting topic. I agree with Carson's and Felix's questions for you. I would like to read it again when your updated plan is posted.

**you need to remove the code verification**

    1. Leigh Ann I thank you so much for commenting on my research plan. As a coach we are sometimes on pins and needles with will we have our athletes during eligibility check. In my time as a coach in high school I have noticed that the athletes can pass their classes during the season but in the off season they constantly fail.

How do I remove the verification code?

  5. The topic doesn't seem to have a solutions. I was under the impression that our goal was to make changes in our school or an intervention plan of some sort. I also agree with the other comments about surveys and comparing two sets of students.

I would appreciate feedback also. Http://dthompson2864.blogspot.com

    1. Donna thanks for your input on my action research plan. I seem to be struggling with finding a topic that is clear to those that read it. The idea is in my head but can't seem to come out correctly.
